What the Burpee Biathlon™ Taught Me About Showing Up… Even When You’re Not at Your Peak

By Heather Binns, Renov8 Fitness

This year, I didn’t train much for the Burpee Biathlon™.

In fact, in the few weeks leading up to the event, I probably only did 30 to 40 burpees total. Which is far from my usual preparation.

And yet…I still completed the 3-mile version.

That’s 180 burpees plus a 3-mile run.

No modifications. No shortcuts.Just me, my breath, my body, and my mindset.

I won’t pretend I felt strong the whole time.I didn’t.Some moments were uncomfortable. Some moments felt longer than they should have.

But I did feel something even better:

Happy.

Surprised.

Proud.

There’s something powerful that happens when you show up for yourself without the expectation of perfection. When you allow yourself to be human and imperfect. And still trust your body to carry you through.

It reminded me of something I tell my clients all the time:

You don’t need to be at your peak to start. You don’t need the perfect routine to try.And you don’t need everything “just right” to make progress.

Sometimes the victory is simply in proving to yourself that you can handle more than you think.

This year’s medal was a handmade glass piece: beautiful, unique, and symbolic in all the right ways. To me, it represented follow-through, not flawless performance. Commitment, not perfection. Heart, not ego.

And honestly? That’s what real wellness looks like.
